Mom

Ok, for this week's posting of "What I Like About You" we are going to spotlight Mom. It would be fun if we could get lots of additions via 'comments' to these postings, too. Ok, here we go.

What I Like About You: Mom

1. Mom is so generous. She is probably the most generous person I know...and she seems to always spread the love to everyone. I am constantly thanking her for one thing or another.

2. I love it when Mom gets laughing really hard and her face gets red and she makes these little high pitched sounds. It is so fun to laugh with her. She has a good sense of humor compared to other Moms and can be amused by a variety of things. For example: When we saw Napoleon Dynamite, mom practically cried at parts, she was laughing so hard.

3. I love how Mom reads the newspaper daily and listens to NPR. She always has something to add to any "current event" discussion. I am always amazed at how well informed she stays.

4. Mom is always giving of her time. Whether it is babysitting your kids, or helping you with something, she is always more than willing to help you and she always makes it seem like she wants to do it. She sacrifices all the time to help one of us.

5. One thing that I love about Mom is something that I didn't notice until I moved out and grew up. Mom let us experiment and explore, especially in her kitchen. I think part of the great love of and ambition for cooking and creating by most of her children stem from the fact that she gave us full reign to create in her kitchen--a power most Mother's would not give up easily. I never remember her saying no or even getting mad at one of us and our creations...as long as we "cleaned it up" later, it was ok. She taught me to be creative without fear of failure. I gained a lot of confidence from learning on my own in the kitchen.

I love Mom's love for good quality, classic things--whether it be food or anything else, I'm glad that she has the wisdom to know what would be good and what to stay away from.

Mom is such a great listener. She will sit there for hours as I ramble away about each individual boy and girl I know, and she will ask questions, smile, give advice, and give love just at the right moments. I hope I can be like that when I'm a Mom.
