"Finally you don't suck at something!" -Elizabeth

Day Four - Thursday

I had studied for our test, but it turned out that she took the questions directly from our pop quiz. I aced it. No pictures this time, however. She didn't laugh at my halitosis drawing, so she didn't deserve another one.

We learned the basics of hair cutting, including how to hold the scissors (thumb and ring finger; moving only the thumb to control the blade--uncomfortable at first, but I'm getting used to it.)
The instructor drew a diagram on the board of what our sectioning should look like, so I did it. But then I looked around and noticed everyone was still on their first section...I'd finished all 5. Things were looking up.

My cutting was perfect, my angles were perfect. My blowdrying with two sizes of roundbrush was perfect. My instructor asked me to watch one of my classmates and give her suggestions regarding how she was blowdrying. Eek. I stood there for a second and she turned to me and said, "I don't need any help." Ok...I walked back to my station.

I left class finally excited to be there.

Day Three - Wednesday

We focused on head massages for a little. The instructor asked me to come to the front of the room to be demonstrated on, so I could see what kind of pressure I needed to use (Because she felt I had a weak shampoo the day before.) I am FAR too ticklish to get a head massage! We had to practice on each other and I learned -once again- how much I am sucking at this. (However, the girl who did it on me was horrid; I didn't mention it because she speaks mostly Spanish and her accent is so thick I can't understand the majority of our conversations.)

We took a pop quiz, I aced it. I drew pictures to correlate with each of my answers, my instructor thinks I'm odd.

Second Day - Tuesday, October 17th

Met the instructor. Wasn't sure what to make of her. Knowledgable, but kind of all over the place. Not sure when she is joking.

We worked on shampooing. The instructor did it first on a fellow student, and showed us just how to do it. After a few fellow students tried I was pretty confidant I could do it. I've been pretending to be Sis Andrews for over fifteen years! I know how to cup the ears, I know to hold the nozzle when rinsing the occipital area!
However, the moment it was my turn and I grabbed the nozzle and turned on the water everything I thought I knew somehow escaped me. I was spraying walls, drowning her ears, dropping the nozzle, and dripping water down her face. My instructor told me to take a breath and chill out. I proclaimed, "I suck at shampooing, and that's pathetic!"

I left feeling very frustrated. I wasn't sure if my instructor likes me or not (during the shampooing I apologized to the girl in my chair beforehand, in case my huge chest smacks her, haha. My instructor proclaimed, "What did you say?! When I was 40 I got a breast reduction, I am one-third my prior size--I have NEVER ONCE apologized for it." Eek, don't know if she was laughing or annoyed.)

Day One - Monday, October 16th

Very awkward. Only seven other people in the class, all girls. We had an administrator with us rather than our instructor. I was obviously the only little Mormon girl as the teacher announced a smoke break and the entire class walked out the door, cigarette in hand. One girl soon came back in and said to me "Ugh, I just quit last week." I almost said "Me too." but stopped myself, as she wouldn't understand the humor. They soon all returned and bought sodas. I said, "Ugh, I just quit last week." Ha!

We got our large metal containers with drawers and a huge box each full of anything an aspiring cosmetologist could desire. Combs, irons, shears, mannequin heads; Christmas in October! I left thoroughly overwhelmed and unsure I could handle two whole years.

Richard asked if I work on cadavers then if the hair on my mannequin practice head came from cadavers, I said I didn't know. He named it "Car Crash Carrie", hahaha.
